The Empowered Divine Feminine in Christianity: An Astrological Perspective

This past Holy Week was a very special time in my life, and I wanted to take a few moments to gather my thoughts and share some of the insights that emerged.

I do not consider myself a particularly religious person, nor was I raised in a religious household. Although my father is a devout Catholic, he never imposed his beliefs on me. I did not participate in traditional rites of passage such as First Communion or Confirmation, so when I attended church as an adult, I was not able to receive communion according to the customs of the church community.

My father, however, gently introduced me to a relationship with Jesus (Yeshua), Mother Mary, and Mary Magdalene in ways that felt natural and easy for me to receive. For that, I am deeply grateful. As I’ve matured, my relationship with them has unfolded in its own time and in its own way. I know that my father prays every day, and I feel in my heart that I am held within those prayers. That, too, is something I deeply cherish. It does not matter that we do not share the same beliefs. What matters to me is the love at the center of his prayers.

Mary Magdalene in a red dress with a red shawl over her head. She has her eyes closed as she gently touches her heart with a red rose in her other hand.

In my writing today, I am going to take the time to explore the Empowered Divine Feminine in Christianity, especially in the ways that it showed up over this past Holy Week. We will explore the name asteroids that invoke a connection to Christian Mysticism, and how they showed up in the transiting sky over these holy days.

There are thousands of asteroids in the universe, and the star keepers have spent decades cataloguing them and giving them names.

The Asteroids included in this piece are:

  • Anna, the grandmother of Jesus;

  • Miriam, the Hebrew name for Mary;

  • MyriamSarah, an asteroid that weaves together the names of Yeshua’s mother, his beloved, and Sarah, his daughter with Mary Magdalene;

  • Mary, representing both the Holy Mother and Mary Magdalene;

  • Magdalena, Beloved Companion of Yeshua, Apostle of the Apostles;

  • Yeshuhua, an Aramaic version for the name of Jesus;

  • Christian, Christa- asteroids that carry “Christ” in their names.

I would like to begin with the Sun, because it is the center from which all life springs. It is source of light around which all else orbits. In astrology, the Sun speaks to the core of our being, the essence of identity, and the path of self-realization that unfolds over a lifetime. It is the inner light we are here to embody and express.

The Archetypal Sun

In Astrology, the Sun represents the fundamental essence and the central organizing principle of one’s being. The Sun is the creative life force that shines on all things equally without review, requirement or expectation.

The Sun is a luminary, and its primary gift is that of illumination. It is a steady, constant source of light. Throughout time, in many mythologies and religious traditions, awareness and consciousness is symbolized by light.

In the birth chart, the Sun is the heart of the chart, the wellspring from which everything originates and to which it ultimately returns. It embodies the core identity, the unique gifts and individual talents, as well as the trials and tribulations one encounters during the life journey.

It's important to understand that the Sun, and the sense of self, may not be immediately apparent, particularly early in life. It can be undeveloped, obscured by layers of cultural and familial conditioning. While one might assume you simply "are" your Sun sign, the reality is that you grow into your Sun sign.

Often, this growth is catalyzed by challenging experiences that compel you to confront the difficulties of your natal Sun. Many times, it is through realizing and embracing the gifts of the Sun that you overcome these obstacles. This process requires a conscious decision to fully step onto the path of pure potential, embarking on a personal "solar journey."

Understanding this journey is crucial to grasping the Sun's role in life. It fuels the individuation process and holds the key to self-development over time. The lifelong pursuit of self-awareness is central to understanding the Sun's profound contribution to your life. In a more mystical sense, the Sun also echoes the symbolism of the Son of God, the divine spark incarnated into human form. Just as the Sun radiates light and life into the world, the Son represents the living embodiment of divine consciousness made visible. When we contemplate the Sun/Son in the chart, we are invited into a deeper relationship with this inner radiance, a remembering that the light we seek is not separate from us, but something we are here to awaken and become.

As we have moved through this Holy Week, beginning with the Full Moon in Libra as our point of entry, the asteroid Yeshuhua, an Aramaic version for the name of Jesus, has been within 3 degrees of the Sun in Aries. They will reach an exact conjunction at 18-Aries on 8:30am on April 8, 2026.

The Sun in Aries carries the mantra “I Am.”

Take a moment to pause, to breathe deeply, and follow your breath into the center of your own heart. One of the primary teachings of Yeshua reminds us that the Kingdom/Queendom of God resides within.

In this way, the Aries Sun with its signature of “I Am,” guides you into a direct, intimate relationship with your own Inner Sun/Son.

We can all find the solar principle within, through the central organizing principles of our lives—the breath and the heart beat—their constant presence giving us life in every moment.

Return your attention to the breath again. Breathe deep into the heart, retain the breath there, allow your breath to guide you within, as you explore your own inner temple with the Mantra, “I am”.

Release gently knowing that you can return to this meditation with your breath at any time. It is always here. It is always now.

The Moon, by contrast, does not generate its own light. It exists in constant relationship with the Sun, reflecting and mirroring its radiance. You might say that the Moon reflects the light of the sol, the Spanish word for the Sun, back to itself. Cycles, rhythms, and the interplay between inner and outer experience are deeply embedded in the nature of this luminary.

The Moon is the place of feminine nurturing, the realm of our earliest memories of bonding, where we first learn what it means to be held, fed, and sustained. It speaks to the emotional body, to instinct and feeling, and to the subtle ways we seek safety, comfort, and belonging in the world. It is not only the mother we were born to, but the imprint of care itself, shaping how we give and receive nourishment throughout our lives.

As Layne Redmond reminds us in her classic text When the Drummers Were Women, “The Moon is the primordial symbol of rhythm, for as it waxes and wanes, it exerts real physical influence on the earth and on all who live on the earth, controlling the rhythms of the tides and the blood cycles of women. It is the ultimate symbol of rhythm and the oldest way of marking time.”

In this way, the Moon invites us into a different kind of intelligence, one that is not linear but cyclical, not driven but receptive. She teaches us to honor the ebb and flow of energy, to trust the wisdom of timing, and to recognize that just as the Moon disappears into darkness and returns again to fullness, so too do we move through phases of contraction, renewal, and rebirth.

Libra Full Moon

Full Moons always mark moments of peak illumination. Due to their mirroring of the Sun’s fullest expression of light, they are inherently relational in nature, and this is especially true when the Moon moves through Libra, a sign ruled by Venus.

The Aries–Libra axis, where we find the Sun and Moon during this lunation, invites an exploration of self and other, or self and beloved. Aries calls us into the courage of selfhood, while Libra reminds us that we are shaped and refined through relationship. Together, they form a living dialogue between independence and connection.

What emerges is a subtle attunement between the inner and outer worlds: action followed by rest, expression followed by reflection. Like the breath itself, Libra’s rhythm is one of giving and receiving, flowing in and out, always seeking a dynamic point of balance rather than a fixed state of perfection. It is here that we begin to understand that harmony is not something we achieve once and for all, but something we continually return to through awareness and choice.

The Full Moon in Libra carries the mantra “I Am That I Am.”

In the same way that we can all find the solar principle within, we can also find the lunar light and rhythm within the breath and the heart beat.

As we attune to the Aries Sun and the mantra of “I am,” we can feel it echo through the field of relationship inviting the Libra Full Moon to extend the mantra to “I am that I am.” This mantra becomes a living bridge between inner awareness and outer connection.

Return to the breath, and now extend the Mantra to, “I am that I am.” (You might also work with the mantra, So Hum.)

On the inhale- I Am.

On the exhale- That I Am.

On the inhale- The Sun in Aries.

On the exhale- The Full Moon in Libra.

Let yourself rest with the breath, the light, and the mantra for several cycles.

When you are ready, breathe deep into the heart, retain the breath there, allow your breath to guide you within as you explore your inner temple.

Release gently knowing that you can return to this meditation with your breath at any time. This is a beautiful embodiment practice to be in deep relationship with the dynamic interplay of the Aries Sun/Libra Full Moon during Holy Week.

Anna/Jupiter/Miriam in Cancer

The planet Jupiter is in direct relationship with this Full Moon. With Jupiter in Cancer we find a beautifully exalted divine feminine energy. Jupiter is sometimes referred to as the king of the gods, however in the sign of Cancer, I would like to offer that this is the Queen of the Gods. Jupiter, in the nurturing, maternal sign of Cancer, becomes an expression of the Divine Mother Goddess.

There are two beautiful asteroids sitting with Jupiter in the sky, Miriam on one side and Anna on the other. Miriam is the Hebrew version of the name Mary, and Anna is the name of the grandmother of Yeshua, the mother of Mother Mary. I cannot think of a more profound example of exalted feminine energy in Christianity than the light of the Mother and Grandmother of Jesus, to be shining down upon us during this Holy Week. This is The Mother who is also The Priestess, the one who leads and guides her family and her community through expansive spiritual wisdom, providing faithful insight into the meaning of life and love.

As Layne Redmond teaches us in her classic text, When The Drummers Were Women, in ancient times, women, mothers, and grandmothers were priestesses and community leaders. They were revered for their leadership and caregiving. They often led ceremonies that invoked the cycle of the moon and the power of the feminine through songs and rhythms played on frame drums that symbolized their connection to The Moon, The Mother, and The Womb. All three of these archetypes are held within the sign of Cancer.

As you work with the energy of Jupiter surrounded by these beautiful asteroids, remember that Cancer is a yin sign that will carry you inward, and for women it carries you into the womb and the breasts, the places where women offer their life-giving water, blood, and milk. To find out more about my interpretation of the sign of Cancer, visit my Welcome to Cancer season blog.

Asteroids Involved with This Full Moon in Libra

As I’ve mentioned, there are two beautiful asteroids accompanying Jupiter in the sky: Miriam on one side and Anna on the other. Miriam is the Hebrew form of Mary, and Anna is the grandmother of Yeshua, the mother of Mother Mary.

Beside the Moon at 16° Libra sits the asteroid MyriamSarah, bringing together Miriam once more with Sarah, traditionally considered the name of Yeshua and Mary Magdalene’s daughter.

At 15° Aries, the Sun is accompanied by Yeshuhua, and nearby at 16° Capricorn rests Christian, adding the essence of Christ Consciousness to the pattern.

I created this image for you to share it in a way that might be easier for some to take in. It also illustrates what is known in astrology as a Cardinal Grand Cross. It spans all four cardinal signs—Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn—calling for action, balance, care, and integration. This is a rare and powerful configuration.

In Christianity, the cross is a profoundly significant symbol, and it carries many layers of meaning. What touched my heart most deeply about this particular Grand Cross is how it centers the many loving female relationships in Yeshua’s life—the grandmother, the mother, the wife, and the daughter—woven together with the light of the Sun, Moon, and Christ Consciousness. It is a celestial reflection of love, light, and legacy. It shares the embodiment of wisdom through the maternal lineage and divine feminine power that supported and guided Yeshua throughout his entire lifetime and beyond. Seeing these asteroids aligned in this way, I felt the Full Moon rise to an entirely new level of meaning—a living, breathing map of connection, devotion, and divine alignment with the balanced masculine/feminine expression of Christ Consciousness.

Moon in Scorpio – Venus/Mary in Taurus – Pluto in Aquarius

As we moved into Good Friday, the Moon continued her journey into the sign of Scorpio, where she formed a powerful opposition to Venus conjunct the asteroid Mary in Taurus. This dynamic was intensified by an exact square from Pluto at 5° Aquarius, creating an aspect pattern known as a T-square.

A T-square occurs when two planets stand in opposition, while a third planet forms a 90-degree angle to both, creating a triangle of tension and activation. In this case, the Moon and Venus/Mary hold the polarity, while Pluto sits at the apex, acting as the point of release and transformation for the energies involved.

Here, we are working with a potent blend of archetypes. Venus is considered to be strong in her home sign of Taurus, while the Moon in Scorpio is traditionally described as being in its “fall.” I would like to gently challenge this language and reframe the narrative of the Scorpio Moon. Much of ancient astrology was written for kings, not queens, within systems that did not honor the power of a woman deeply connected to her own soul. The woman who seeks truth at profound depths, who demands honesty from herself and others, was not exalted, but often feared.

Yet this is precisely the gift of the Scorpio Moon. As expressed in the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, “I will show you what is hidden from you.” This is the essence of Scorpio: the courage to reveal what lies beneath the surface, to bring truth into the light.

This feels especially resonant with Pluto in the humanitarian sign of Aquarius. Pluto is the planet of transformation and rebirth, where outdated and corrupt power structures are dismantled so that a more balanced expression of power can emerge. It signifies the end of one way of being, making way for a resurrection into something new.

Moon 19° Scorpio – Magdalena 19° Leo

As the Moon moved deeper into Scorpio, she received further support in expressing her strength and power through her connection with key asteroids, including Magdalena at 19° Leo, illuminating the sacred feminine in her fullest expression.

Historically, women have not been honored within many religious institutions, and the story of Mary Magdalene reflects this distortion. For centuries, she has been misrepresented as a prostitute, when in truth she was a devoted companion and spiritual equal to Yeshua. This mischaracterization is not a small detail, but part of a larger pattern in which the wisdom, authority, and spiritual leadership of women have been diminished or erased.

We are left to wonder why. Why were women of wisdom so often subdued by those in positions of power? Why were matriarchal societies around the world so systematically dismantled?

When we look more closely, we begin to see that Mary Magdalene was a teacher, an initiate, and a bearer of profound spiritual insight. She represents a lineage of feminine wisdom that is intuitive, embodied, and deeply connected to direct experience of the divine. To reclaim her story is to reclaim something within ourselves: the capacity to know, to feel, and to trust the truth that arises from within.

In this way, her story is not only about the past. It is alive in the present moment, inviting a restoration of balance between the masculine and feminine, and a remembering of the sacred authority that has always lived within the feminine soul. It is time to reclaim her-story and restore the truth of her priestesshood.

The Gospel of Mary

Peter said to Mary, Sister we know that the Savior loved you more than the rest of woman.

Tell us the words of the Savior which you remember which you know, but we do not, nor have we heard them.

Mary answered and said, What is hidden from you I will proclaim to you.

And she began to speak to them these words: I, she said, I saw the Lord in a vision and I said to Him, Lord I saw you today in a vision. He answered and said to me,

Blessed are you that you did not waver at the sight of Me. For where the mind is there is the treasure.

I said to Him, Lord, how does he who sees the vision see it, through the soul or through the spirit?

The Savior answered and said, He does not see through the soul nor through the spirit, but the mind that is between the two that is what sees the vision and it is [...]

Moon 28° Scorpio – Uranus 28° Taurus

On Easter Sunday, the Moon completed its sojourn through the sign of Scorpio, where the Moon formed an opposition to Uranus, the great liberator of the solar system. My prayer on this day was simple,

“May this Moon, and the divine feminine power she carries, be released from the shackles that have held her back for so long.”

Take a moment to sit with the image of a woman as priestess, one who may also be a mother and a wife, both loving and strong. This is an archetype that has long been hidden within the collective consciousness, yet let’s make a conscious effort in this moment to invite it back into awareness.

During this beautiful Easter ceremony, I was able to receive communion for the first time without shame. It felt revolutionary to be free from the rules that held me back for so long. A beautiful sister even asked me to give her communion! It is a memory I will always cherish, and it came from a place of such innocence because I know very little about the ritual of communion, and yet, it felt so perfect.

May we all find our way to the kingdom, or queendom, within our own hearts through whatever path most encourages our fullest expression of love and light.

With deep gratitude for the people, teachings, and experiences that have supported this unfolding, I now offer my acknowledgements.
