Big Dreams, Little Details

The Lunar Nodes, made up of the North Node and South Node, are linked to themes of destiny, purpose, evolution, and soul growth. On January 11, 2025, the nodal axis shifts into the Pisces/Virgo polarity renowned for its gifts in healing and service, compassion and humility. The North Node in Pisces encourages an exploration of dreams, imagination, and the interconnectedness of all beings. Simultaneously, the South Node in Virgo prompts a discerning look at the places where shame, unworthiness, and dissatisfaction reside so that healing may occur. As the nodes traverse this axis, an alchemical blend of Pisces' visionary, poetic mysticism and Virgo's practical, methodical process will be required. This is a beautiful channel for manifestation- what begins in the imagination flows into the material world. It is the little details that make the big dreams come true.

Astrologically, the North Node is often described as an upward movement of energy, signifying growth, desire, and a direction towards something new. Conversely, the South Node suggests a downward movement, emphasizing release, surrender, and moving away from familiar patterns. While often described as linear and binary, I believe the relationship between the Nodes to be a continuous, circular flow of communication between the two polarities.

This perspective creates a more holistic, fluid relationship within the polarity, one that emphasizes reciprocity and connection rather than a more binary stance rooted in gains and losses, which in turn can be judged as good and bad.  Imagining the infinity symbol is a nice way to visualize how the energy dynamically flows back and forth within the polarity.

North Node in Pisces

Embrace Compassion and Empathy: Cultivate deeper levels of compassion and empathy for yourself and others. Let go of judgment and embrace the interconnectedness of all beings.

Develop Intuition and Spirituality: Trust your intuition and explore spiritual practices like meditation, energy healing, and the cultivation of intuition.

Express Creativity and Imagination: Allow your imagination to soar. Explore artistic expression through music, writing, painting, or any other form that resonates with you.

Surrender to the Flow: Learn to trust the universe and go with the flow. Embrace uncertainty and allow yourself to be guided by a higher power.

Heal and Forgive: Release past hurts and forgive yourself and others. Embrace forgiveness as a path to inner peace and liberation.

South Node in Virgo

Strive For Excellence: Do your best. Your best is good enough.

Be Gentle With Yourself in the Process: Observe the voice of the inner critic during times of growth and change. Reframe mistakes as necessary and helpful guides for learning and development.

Overcome Overthinking and Analysis: When you catch yourself in the habit of overthinking and overanalyzing situations, return to your breath and your body. Trust your gut.

Prioritize Self-Care: Focus on holistic self-care practices that involve purification of mind, body and spirit through meditation, healthy eating, exercise, and relaxation techniques.

Detach from the Need to Fix: Learn to detach from the need to fix, adjust, and monitor. Sometimes, the best course of action is to do nothing more.

Release the Need for Perfection: Let go of any anxiety or dissatisfaction that comes from a need for order and precision. Share your ideas and creations even if they aren’t perfect.

When viewing the polarity as a unified field, the potential for the two signs to be exponentially stronger as a pair rather than two separate parts is profound. For example, consider the writing of a song. First there is the poem. Each word begins in the imaginal realm and flows through the creative channel of your mind. There is the process of writing them down. Those words are then paired with musical notes on an instrument, or the rhythm of a drum. Perhaps, there is a period of revision and editing, or a time of practicing again and again until excellence is achieved. This is a wonderful example of how the imaginative, creative capacity of Pisces works with the detailed, process-oriented approach of Virgo to bring the vision into reality.

Another valuable aspect of working with polarities lies in understanding how they address the challenges within each sign. The solution to a sign's inherent struggles often resides within its opposite. For example, Pisces' unwavering compassion for both self and other can be a remedy for the voice of the inner critic sometimes associated with the shadow side of Virgo’s archetype. Feelings of unworthiness and dissatisfaction melt in a sea of trust that everything is okay as it is.

At the same time, Virgo's pragmatic approach, characterized by questions like "How can I break this down into smaller, more manageable steps?" and "What is the most efficient use of my energy?", can effectively ground Pisces' tendency to become overly immersed in the realm of imagination, where creative ideas may remain too abstract to manifest.

Douglas Gillette provides a gorgeous summation of how the best of Pisces blends with the best of Virgo in the following quote,

It is those different realms of consciousness...that ultimately have a very practical value. This makes the part of me that is “daily life, commonsensical, rationally accessible” more humble. And to become more humble is to become more compassionate which is to become more humane…which leads to clearer and purer moments of love.
— Douglas Gillette, Author of Soul Making

With this blending of energies in mind, here are a few journaling questions to consider:

  • What small, essential steps are necessary to manifest a larger dream?

  • How does humility cultivate greater compassion?

  • How have past mistakes transformed into valuable lessons or unexpected blessings?

  • Think of a time when you’ve achieved excellence in your craft. Write about how that felt. How did it begin with a vision? How much practice or effort did you put in to make it a reality?

  • Allow the critical voice within you to speak through writing. Let it flow as a form of release. Respond in writing with compassion. Do this as often as needed.

Additional Astrological Considerations

The Mutable Signs

The Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) were a focal point in 2024 astrology due to the Jupiter in Gemini-Saturn in Pisces squares that occurred. The mutable emphasis will continue in 2025 with the nodal axis traversing the Pisces-Virgo axis.

In looking at the Mutable Cross, Jupiter and Mercury rule all four signs- Jupiter rules Sagittarius and Pisces, and Mercury rules Gemini and Virgo. Therefore, anytime the astrological climate takes on a mutable tone, Mercury and Jupiter gain heightened significance.  As the traditional ruler of Pisces, Jupiter will govern the North Node for the next 18 months. Concurrently, Mercury will rule the South Node in Virgo.

Jupiter in Gemini

During the first half of 2025, Jupiter remains in Gemini. This can bring an abundance of opportunities for learning, potentially leading to an overwhelming sense of having too many ideas and insufficient time or resources to pursue them all. Careful discernment is crucial when selecting projects, courses of study, and even conversations. Excessive energy expenditure may yield limited results.

Furthermore, with Jupiter in Gemini, mindful communication is essential. Consider the impact of your words, to whom you speak, and the purpose of your communication. There's a risk of oversharing and subsequently needing to mitigate the consequences. Breathwork, meditation, and periods of silence can help balance the influence of Jupiter in Gemini and honor the ongoing square to Saturn.

Jupiter in Cancer

Jupiter enters Cancer on June 9th, 2025. This can be a time of heightened emotional awareness and a focus on home and family. Emotional growth comes through an attunement to the feelings of self and others. This can bring an expanded opportunity to create a loving, supportive home environment filled with nurturing relationships and physical security. The potential challenges may be found in an over-emotional tendency to cling to others for comfort and support.

A final square aspect between Jupiter and Saturn occurs on June 15th, with Jupiter at 1-Cancer and Saturn at 1-Aries. Anytime a transit takes place at 0-2 degrees of a Cardinal sign, this is considered a point of high visibility where events are easily observed and revealed. The events of this period may be influenced by the preceding Jupiter-Saturn squares of August and December 2024. It will be fascinating to observe how these events unfold.

Following this final square, Jupiter will find relief from the tension with Saturn as it journeys further into Cancer and provides a more supportive energetic backdrop, forming harmonious trines to the North Node in Pisces and sextiles to the South Node in Virgo.

Mercury Retrogrades Hold Special Significance

Mercury rules the South Node in Virgo, and therefore the Mercury retrogrades of 2025 hold special significance. The first Mercury retrograde specifically will go back and forth over the North Node in Pisces. The 26 and 27 degrees of Pisces will be especially activated during this time, and therefore those with planets at 26-27 degrees of any of the mutable signs will especially feel this transit. Hold this with curiosity. Observe the messages you receive at that time with the expanded philosophy of Pisces rooted in faith, surrender and compassion. Don’t over analyze. Allow that which is most valuable to come to the surface. If things aren’t working, just let them go.
