Welcome to Taurus Season

Returning to the Earth, the Body, and the Beauty of Life

After the initiating spark of Aries season, the Sun moves into Taurus and the pace of life begins to soften and settle, inviting us to slow down, steady ourselves, and remember the wisdom of the body. This is a time to manifest inspiration into the material realm in tangible and enduring ways, and to appreciate the simple yet profound experience of being alive in the present moment.

A beautiful garden with many flowers in bloom

Fixed, Earth, Yin

Steady, enduring energy that sustains and stabilizes; committed to seeing things through over time

Rooted in the material world; values what is tangible, practical, and life-sustaining

Receptive, resourced and attuned from within; draws energy in to cultivate depth, presence, and nourishment

Taurus is an earth sign, deeply grounded and attuned to the rhythms of nature. When I think of Taurus season, I imagine a garden in full bloom. Perhaps this comes from growing up in Maryland on the East Coast, where each year unfolds through four distinct seasons, and this time of year brings spring blossoms and fresh growth.

As a Fixed sign, Taurus season offers a gentle but powerful reminder that there is strength in staying grounded in what truly matters. In a world that often prioritizes speed and productivity, when you slow down to listen to the wisdom of a garden, it reminds you that growth does not need to be rushed. Like a flower making its way through the soil, toward the light, and opening in its own time, life unfolds according to its natural rhythm when given proper nourishment and care. The garden whispers, “If you tend it, it will grow.” There is beauty in stewardship, in the steady consistency required to tend to what we truly value. Taurus teaches a quiet calm through the willingness to let something meaningful take shape over time.

As yin sign, Taurus season is deeply resourced from within. The blossoms in the garden arise from an inner well of nourishment. In its ability to receive sunlight and water, the flower naturally grows into its offering of beauty to the world. This giving is effortless, emerging from a rich and rooted inner landscape.

Ruled by Venus, Taurus carries a deep appreciation for love, beauty, and sensual connection…

whether that be to another person, a soft blanket, or a delicious cup of tea. The Venus-ruled Taurus teaches us to savor the touch, the taste, the scent, the sounds, and the beauty of the world in which we live. It is both the quickening of the pulse when aroused and the settling down into comfort when satisfied. Venus takes us straight into the desires of the heart and reminds us what a gift it is to have a body that can experience such pleasure. It reminds us that pleasure is not indulgent when rooted in presence. To feel, taste, touch, rest, and breathe deeply into life as it is, these are not distractions from the path, they are the path.

Aphrodite striding confidently with a spear in one hand and a flaming heart in the other, with a bull by her feet.

Often associated with the goddess Aphrodite, Venus is the place of attraction and desire.

Aphrodite is the embodiment of beauty, sensuality, and magnetic allure. In this image, we see her so rooted in her hips as she strides across the ground, with her chest and head held high, shoulders back, deeply grounded, carrying a spear and a flaming heart. Her posture indicates a sense of command over the world around her, with the wind blowing the ribbons in her hair and the Taurean bull resting by her feet.

She teaches us that attraction is not something we chase, but something we exude from an inner resource that flows with abundance, through the body, through posture, and through the way we walk. By honoring our natural radiance and worth, we are reminded that pleasure, connection, and the appreciation of beauty are sacred forces that nourish the heart and awaken the senses.

The Taurus Gift

The gift of Taurus is its deep capacity for steadiness, presence, and the ability to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Taurus teaches us to root into the body, trust the natural timing of life, and build something meaningful with patience and care. There is a quiet strength here, one that does not rush or force, but allows for genuine connection rooted in a love of beauty and enjoyment.

Taurus also holds a deep relationship to value. It helps us discern what is truly worth our time and energy, and invites us to invest in those things with care and consistency. This is the energy that builds something lasting, whether a relationship, a body of work, or a sense of inner security that endures. Taurus has a sincere capacity to find fulfillment in simplicity and comfort, reminding us that what is simply present is oftentimes more than enough.

Perhaps most importantly, Taurus embodies this capacity to receive the world through the senses and to meet it with a heart that is open and alive.

As James Hillman reminds us in The Anima Mundi, Taurus is sensitive to “the displayed intelligibility of things, their sound, shape, speaking to and through our heart’s reactions, responding to the looks and languages, tones and gestures of the things we move among.” Hillman names this aesthesis, the awakened, feeling heart, a breath of “ah” or “aha”, an immediate response of wonder and recognition in the presence of beauty. It is the heart’s natural response to the world when we are fully present, receptive, and alive to the beauty that surrounds us.

The Taurus Shadow

As Safron Rossi teaches in her course on Zodiacal Polarities at Astrology University, one of the shadow expressions of Taurus is the impulse to hold, sustain, and secure what it values. This can show up as possessiveness, not only of material objects, but also of ideas, identities, and relationships that feel safe or beautiful.

Over time, this holding can become stagnation, a clinging to the familiar that limits growth. When the hands are tightly closed around what is known, they lose their capacity to receive. When challenging the Taurus shadow, we must remember to soften the grip, to trust in the natural cycles of life, and to remember that letting go is often what makes renewal possible.

The shadow of Taurus can also emerge when its steady nature becomes overly fixed or resistant to change. What begins as stability may harden into stubbornness, attachment, or a reluctance to release what has outgrown its purpose. There can be a tendency to cling to comfort or security, even when life is asking for movement. In this way, Taurus reminds us that true grounding is not rigidity, but a rooted flexibility that allows life to continue unfolding.

We often hear the phrase “stubborn as a bull” in connection with the Taurus archetype, which can be a reflection of both the strength and challenge within this sign. The bull is known for its calm, steady presence, yet there is also a slow-building intensity beneath the surface. It may take time to stir, but once provoked, the force can be powerful and difficult to redirect.

There are many myths that can also help us to reframe the image of the Bull in relation to the sign of Taurus.

In myth and symbolism, the bull is connected to goddess worship and reflects themes of fertility, regeneration, and feminine creative force.

I’m drawn to this image of a woman seated upon a bull as they move together across the sea. She is at ease, her body relaxed, fully trusting the strength and direction of the bull beneath her. There is no urgency here, only a quiet certainty, a sense of being carried with steadiness and grace.

From that place of trust, she offers her music. Her expression is not forced or performative, but naturally arising from a grounded connection. There is a softness in the exchange, an embodied sensuality that speaks to the deeper essence of Taurus: trust, presence, and a felt sense of safety within their bond.

The image also echoes the ancient myth of Europa and Zeus. Enchanted by her beauty, Zeus takes the form of a gentle white bull and approaches her along the shoreline. Drawn in by his calm presence, Europa climbs onto his back, and he carries her across the sea to Crete.

There, beneath the shelter of a plane tree said to remain forever green, their union unfolds. Like many Taurus stories, it is a tale woven with themes of attraction, trust, and the sensual pull toward something that feels both grounded and determined.

As we move through Taurus season, we are invited to slow down, to return to the body, and to remember what truly sustains us. This is a time to tend to what we value with care and consistency, to trust the quiet unfolding of life, and to honor the beauty that is already present. Growth does not need to be forced. It asks only for our presence, our attention, and our willingness to stay.

Taurus reminds us that there is wisdom in simplicity. When we soften into this gentle, grounded pace, we begin to experience a deeper sense of fulfillment, one that arises not from constant striving, but from being fully here. May this season guide you back to your center. May it root you in what is real and open your senses to the quiet, enduring beauty of life as it is.
