Welcome to the Air Age

Jupiter expands. Saturn contracts.

These two cosmic giants breathing together-

inside. each. one. of us.

Blessed witnesses to their dance of light and learning.

Our descendants, the children of the future

watch from the stars and the moon,

cheering us on

as they wait for their turn

to return to earth in physical form.

A little girl waves and a little boy sits,

inside of this hopeful, glowing light,

watching, waiting, witnessing-

calling us home to ourselves and each other.

Traditionally, Saturn is a planet that teaches us about the kind of commitment, boundaries and discipline needed to really mature in the world.  As with all things in astrology, a lot depends on how Saturn shows up in your birth chart…but in general, Saturn is a strict teacher that says, “You might not like this very much, but it has to be done, and once you get through it, you’ll be stronger and wiser.”  Saturn is full of grit.  It’s tough.  It shows you limitations.  It makes you work inside of clock time and calendar time with practical honesty…and it makes you grow through experience. *An excerpt from my blog, https://allisonayala.wordpress.com/2020/02/14/intergenerational-healing-and-saturn/

On the other hand, Jupiter is big and bold and give us hope. Jupiter is the energy behind inspiration. Take a moment to remember how you felt the last time you were really inspired by someone. Maybe it filled you with hope?  Maybe it filled you with ideas about how you could make the world a better place? That’s Jupiter energy. It provides that cosmic nudge to be the best versions of ourselves. It shows up as a willingness to explore new ways of being and thinking in the world. Jupiter carries us to new places, new people, new ideas. All the while, encouraging us to have faith in the big picture and to rest in the knowing that we all have a divine purpose. The quest to discovering that purpose is what makes life beautiful, and Jupiter is at the heart of the quest. *An excerpt from my blog, https://allisonayala.wordpress.com/2019/12/02/jupiter-in-capricorn/

And so, a combination of these two planets gives us the ability to create a vision that comes from both inspiration stemming from faith and wisdom gained through experience. In my honest opinion, this is one of the best astrological combinations that exists, and perhaps that is why it is called the Grand Conjunction. It's a practical mix of hard work and devotion, enthusiasm and realism. It provides the big picture plans along with the everyday steps to accomplish them.

These two very important planets meet in this way every 20 years, however, this meeting is especially significant because we are leaving a 200-year cycle of the Earth Element and we are entering a new 200-year cycle of the Air Element. As we stand here and look back upon the 200 year cycle that has drawn to a close, and we turn towards a future we are developing and creating with every choice we make today, let us learn from our mistakes and hardships and let us celebrate our humanity.

The Sign of Aquarius is the place in which we usher in this new era, and what better archetype than the Water Bearer to do so? As my cup runneth over, may the empty cups around me be filled. This may be a very good motto with which to enter this new era. My prayer is that we truly move forward into the future with a humanitarian vision of equality at the center of all we do. May we truly shift away from the "dominion over" mindset and shift into a "communion with" mindset. We can do this by asking ourselves questions like,

  • How do we partner with each other and the natural world around us?

  • How do we invite the highest expression of these planetary energies into our lives?

  • What kind of future do we want to create for the future?

  • What creative, innovative solutions arise when faced with challenges and obstacles?

  • How do we cultivate more trust in our communities?

Because this beautiful new beginning is also taking place on the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere, this is a very good day to sit in meditation and really contemplate how you personally would like to partner with these energies and bring them into your life with more consciousness. Set intentions. Explore your dreams. Create practical plans to manifest them.

Below I've listed some dates specific to both Jupiter's and Saturn's journeys through Aquarius. In the meantime, as we all usher in these tremendous energies and opportunities, may your path be blessed and clear. May your cup runneth over into the cups around you.
